What is a healthy lifestyle?

Get moving! Try anything that will get your heart rate up! Play kickball with your kids or grandkids, or go swimming on hot afternoons. To gain the most benefit, try doing at least 30 minutes of physical activity on most days. Shorter bursts are just as good and may make it easier to get all the exercise you need into one day.
You are what you eat! It’s no secret—we love to eat! Think of how much time you spend thinking about food and eating it every day. Providing our bodies with nutritious foods, or eating to live, allows our bodies to function the best way they can.
Are you at a healthy weight? You don’t need to be a certain size to be healthy, so focus on your health instead of your size. Losing weight is a challenge for most people, and each person does it a different way. The easiest way to start for many people is with walking. Lace up your shoes and go!
Know your numbers! To understand your health, you must know your numbers: your cholesterol, blood pressure, triglycerides, and glucose. Schedule your annual physical and talk with your doctor about what your numbers mean. Not sure which preventive screenings you need? Click here for the women’s age-based screening details.
